It did not Challenge the constitution, Watergate just showed how crooked the nixon administration really was. |

At its heart it was a simple criminal case of burglary. Not at all constitutional at all. Nixon resigned rather than face impeachment, if he hadn't there would have been more constitutional involvement as impeachment hadn't been done in quite some time. It was however a matter of national import not to have a man as president who would most certainly be found guilty of paying for his enemies offices to be robbed in the hopes of getting negative information about them, while not often mentioned, he was also behind the Ellsberg burglary too. We took serious things more seriously then, now we focus more on the entertainment value of a scandal, its more important for instance that we parse every sentence uttered on a campaign trail, than the ideas and aims of the people involved. |
